2 Films: 50's Film Where Starved Woman Eats Wallpaper; 2000's Film Where Woman Hiding Under Elevator Finds Dead Bodies There

I'm trying to find two film titles:

The first is a 50's film where a woman is kept locked upstairs and starved. At one point, she eats wallpaper, and in another the maid (Alice?) sits on sits on the stairs taunting her, saying something like 'If you're lucky, I will leave the peas and gravy'. It's one of those films in which the end is the beginning. In the beginning, see a woman being carried out on a stretcher and her arm falls, and her wedding ring falls off. I don't think it is the movie Gaslight (1944).

The second movie is a foreign film, maybe French or German, in the torture genre where a woman escapes her torturers in a big warehouse-type building and hides under an elevator, but dead murdered bodies are under there.
