70's Film: Werewolf Attacks Couple Stopped in Car

by Wayne Billings
(Thomasville, North Carolina, USA)

I'm looking for a 70's werewolf (I think) movie.

Two people are driving down a dirt road in the middle of the night when the car stalls or they stop to make out. A big hand with claws comes out from under the car and punctures the tires.

The man leaves the woman in the car and walks down the road to get help when the creature attacks the car by tearing the roof off like a can opener, and busting the windows to get the woman.

While the man is walking down the road, he hears something in the woods and it gets him too.

The Boy Who Cried Werewolf (1973) starring Kerwin Mathews (swashbuckling hero of The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), Jack the Giant Killer (1962), and The 3 Worlds of Gulliver) (1960), Elaine Devry, Scott Sealey (his film debut, also the second and final time he acted).

IMDb synopsis:
Little Richie Bridgestone (whose parents are divorced) goes to spend the weekend with his father at his secluded mountain cabin, and witnesses his father being attacked by 'a creature' that the boy recognizes as a werewolf. He spends the rest of the film trying to convince his mother, and his therapist that his father is now a werewolf.

You can read a detailed plot summary at Wikipedia:

/wiki/The_Boy_Who_Cried_Werewolf

There are descriptions of his attacks/kills, including a newlywed couple. Here's that part:
Richie ... continues his flight through the dark night, finally finding a camper belonging to two newlyweds. He tells them his story and, although they aren't ready to believe in werewolves, see the boy is distressed, and the man agrees to take Richie home. Upon arriving back at the cabin, they discover that Richie's father is not there, and Richie begs the man to let him return with him to the camper for the night. The next morning Robert, appearing dazed and confused, shows up at the camper and tells the couple he has been searching for Richie all night. Richie tells his dad about the werewolf, but Robert is clearly losing patience with his son's fantasies. The next night, another full moon, and this time the werewolf, stealthily opening the cabin door and creeping silently through the house, is disappointed to discover that Richie has anticipated his moves and hidden himself. The werewolf leaves the cabin, where he seeks out the newlywed couple, pushes their camper down a steep hill, and drags the bodies out to mutilate them, beheading one of them, and saving the head as a sort of trophy, which he carries back to the cabin in a burlap bag.

On a personal note: This was the first of a double bill with Sssssss (1973), which I liked so much more that I actually forgot a lot about the opening movie. I'd like to see it again someday.

I'm looking for the name of that very same movie! I saw it in the early 70's at a theater.
