The Awaken the Dead
press screening was the place to be
The
Awaken the Dead press screening at the
Culver Studios in Los Angeles on July 11, 2006 was an event where
Director/writer/editor Jeff Brookshire showed off the movie's stars and
music creators - and Best-Horror-Movies.com was there with an insider's
view.
First,
some background. Best-Horror-Movies.com is a new site
started in 2006, and is run by a guy who loves horror movies (me) and
written by several contributors from around the country who are so
passionate about horror that they just MUST tell the world. There are
no "professional" critics, no corporate entertainment folks and no
"insiders". Until now!
A really great thing is happening. Best-Horror-Movies.com is being
actively pursued by writers, directors, production companies and P.R.
firms to get involved in, and then write about events and new movies.
Must be the power of the tens of thousands of visitors the site has
every month.
Ever wonder what the insides of horror creation are really like, from
the point of view of a very "non-Hollywood" person? That's what you
will find in the Horror Insider section of this
site.
The Awaken the Dead press screening, which was
actually primarily focused on presenting the film to potential
distributors, was apparently a bit "out of order". As
writer/director/editor Jeff Brookshire put it, "typically independent
films are finished and then go through the festival circuit, and
distributor premier screenings happen after that. We are on the fast
track."

It was certainly quite a party.
All of the stars of the film were there as well as the composers of the
(awesome) music, along with a host of horror writers and industry types
- and some foreign dignitaries! Cameras were flashing and business
cards were flying around faster than the cards of a Vegas blackjack
dealer.
The site of the Awaken
the Dead press screening was pretty cool, The Culver Studios.
This is the site where Gone
with the Wind was
filmed, as well as the original King
Kong
(1933)
and Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca
(1940) and Spellbound
(1945).

While the crowd was schmoozing,
networking and preparing to enter the theater for the screening, a
couple of folks floated around the room with a large movie camera
interviewing people for the movie's "extra features" when a DVD release
finally happens. Of course, when they came up to me and Wayne (who came
along to act as the official BHM photographer) and
found out that we weren't in the movie they promptly moved on to more
interesting fare.
Finally, the point of the Awaken
the Dead press screening arrived: Watching the movie! Wayne
and I, being of the press after all, were escorted to an area roped off
by red velvet that was right in the center of the theater at the
PERFECT viewing angle. Now, if I could just play the "press card" at
our local multiplex...
After
Awaken the Dead played and the applause died down,
the party continued for several hours.
Now, I know what you're
thinking..."What about the movie?!?"
Well, I'm not going to tell
about that here, but instead devote an entire page to it. Click here
