Horror New Releases, February 2007
The Grudge 2 (Unrated Director's Cut)
- Sequel to the popular movie The Grudge with Sarah Michelle Geller continuing as the star. Not very well reviewed.
Hellboy - Sword of Storms
- Animated feature of the adventures of Hellboy - Great if you like that sort of thing.
Incubus (Unrated Edition)
- Tara Reid stars in this film about college students being victimized by a psycho. Reviews are terrible.
Masters of Horror - Pelts
- Dario Argento (Suspiria, Dawn of the Dead European Version) really goes all out in this one...gore, story, sex and violence are all accounted for. Highly recommended!!!
Apartment Zero
- Dark psychological horror that is quite unsettling. This 1988 feature directed by Martin Donovan is very well reviewed, and I will get this one myself next week...
The Devil's Den
- This one involves a "gentelman's club" filled with possessed strippers. Cool.
Tideland
- Reportedly very grisly and disturbing with elements of "art film". I haven't seen it, but would enjoy some feedback from those that have.
The Kommissar X Collection
- Exploitation spy film reports to have "guns, goons and girls". Hmmm.
Lizard in a Woman's Skin
- Remastered Fulci (Zombi 2) film from 1977 - this one is a classic to those "in the know" with some notable gore scenes.
Bloody Mary
- Low budget thriller based on the Bloody Mary urban legend. Mixed reviews.
Bit Parts
- This one follows the deeds of a plastic surgeon on a quest to make his injured daughter look "perfect". I can see where this is going...
Jess Franco's Count Dracula (Special Edition)
- Classic Christopher Lee Dracula from 1973 - good stuff.
Dead Mary
- Direct-to-disc horror that doesn't have anything notable written about it at all.
Return in Red
- Direct to DVD and fresh off the festival circuit, this flick has very mixed reviews.
Deep Red
- Dario Argento again with a remaster of this flick from 1976. Considered by some to be a "masterpiece".
New Horror Movie Reviews
The Messengers
- The Messengers is The Pang Brothers first English-language feature, and brings their unique perspective to the often-seen ghost story. Written by BHM Editor Don Sumner
Audition
- Audition is yet another excellent entry to the horror genre from Asia, and Takashi Miike tells an intense story leading to a climax of controlled chaos. Written by The Zombie Master Lee Roberts
The Craft
- The Craft is great mainstream horror that is not scary and not deep, but still worth watching for the individual performances. Read the review along with my theory of what others may have said. Don Sumner
The Wicker Man
- The Wicker Man is a remake of a 1973 film wrought with symbolism and images of feminine power. Too bad it is a terrible horror movie. Read the review by first-time BHM Contributor Kimberly M.
The Serpent and the Rainbow
- The Serpent and the Rainbow is eerie black-magic and psychological horror that actually gets many of the details about Voodoo correct. This immeasureably adds to the effectiveness. Don Sumner
Creepshow
- Creepshow demonstrates what happens when you combine some of the greatest talent in horror, Stephen King and George Romero, and leave them alone to do what they do best. Lee Roberts
Carnival of Souls
- Carnival of Souls (aka Corridors of Evil) is dark psychological horror that makes the jump from Sunday afternoon favorite to cult classic. Don Sumner
New Character Profiles
Freddy Krueger
- Freddy Krueger is the evil villain from the popular Nightmare on Elm Street series of films. What is it about Freddy that stands out among horror monster immortals?
Dr. Van Helsing
- Dr Van Helsing was introduced in Bran Stoker's classic novel Dracula, and has continued to evolve in film since 1897. Here is a look at some of the evolutions.
