BHM to Publish New Horror Movie Book

After serving as the Horror Movie Locale Expert for USA Today in October (Did you see that? Check out The Horror Czar in USA Today Here) the world was hungry for more from us here at BHM and The Ossuary. Long story short, a book is in the works and the horror films that will be written about will be chosen by the BHM Selection Panel. This includes Ossuary Members:

The Zombie Master
Pumpboy
Crypticpsych
Attrage

Things are just getting started, but we'll keep you posted. Maybe a blog so folks can follow the first writing of a horror tome? I'll put a poll up on The Ossuary and see if anyone wants that.

Stay Tuned!

New Release Horror DVDs for June 2009

Friday the 13th (Extended Killer Cut) - This remake/ reimagining/ sequel to the Jason Voorhees saga has gotten very mixed reviews. For the record, I loved it and will certainly own this extended version.

Blood Ties: The Complete Season One - Supernatural cop drama that has some passionate followers. I haven't seen it myself.

Friday the 13th (Extended Killer Cut and Theatrical Cut + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] - I don't normally note the DVD and the Blu-Ray of a new release (one typically will suffice) but this version has theatrical, extended and a file to download to your computer. Good stuff.

The Hunger: The Complete First Season - I read a review that said that this series was "like Soft Porn Twilight Zone". Hmmmm...

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (Deluxe Edition) - Well, we all know that this wasn't the 'final chapter' of anything, but this version has some killer special features.

Friday the 13th, Part 3 3D [Blu-ray] - I always forget that this was in 3-D - this is an important film in the Jason franchise, and I bet the 3-D is awesome in Blu-Ray.

Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives (Deluxe Edition) - Wow, this is the 'Jason' month. I really like 'Jason Lives' because the cop gets broken in half backward... I yell out loud every time I see it.

Elsewhere [Blu-ray] - This is fairly well reviewed actually, even though I've never heard of it. It would be great if one of you would submit a review and set me straight.

Friday the 13th, Part 2 [Blu-ray] - Okay, Jason is getting a little annoying for June... but getting these on Blu-Ray is on my agenda for sure. Blu-Ray rocks!

Silent Venom - OMG - mutant snakes. Nuff said.

Retardead - We reviewed this film a long time ago - good to see that there is actually a DVD release now... bet they didn't include a quote from me on their DVD cover though... bitches. Read the review of RetarDead here.

RiffTrax: Carnival of Souls - from the stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000! - I don't know how I feel about this... I really like Carnival of Souls and these bozos are gonna make fun of it. Read my review of Carnival of Souls here.

Razortooth - Exotic eels that can breathe air and survive on land? With teeth that will kill you? Sounds dreadful.

Hide - I have never heard of this one at all... can't even figure out what it's about. Anyone?

Monsturd - Okay, so... this was made by the same folks that did RetarDead above - and it is actually about a monster made of crap. Hmmm...

The Legend of the Blood Castle - Film from 1972 by one of the lesser-known Spanish horror creators.

RiffTrax: House on Haunted Hill - from the stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000! - Now this is too much. Making fun of Vincent Price?? Say it ain't so!

The Kiss - Horror comedy that is not well known but pretty highly reviewed. You be the judge.

Baccano: Volume Four - Monsters and Mobsters, all in Anime. Golly.

Drive-In Classics Collection - Don't know about the 'classic' part, but there will be lots of go-go girls, speed demons and swamp frolicking. Includes Speed Lovers, Swamp Girl, This Stuff'll Kill Ya, Year of the Yahoo and Two Thousand Maniacs.

Puppet Master Box Set - In my humble opionion this franchise started out strong and got progressively tragic... like they all do. Here they all are.

Sea Beast - Jeeze, first Jason and now 'Nature Gone Wild'. Lots of crazy critters in the June new releases. Will mankind survive?

Bride of Frankenstein - Bride of Frankenstein Turns Loneliness into Tragedy as the combination of playing God and showing compassion for a lonely monster brings suffering and death in Gothic Universal Style.

The Innocents - The Innocents, Based on the Novel 'Turn of the Screw', is Generally Torturous to Watch, but is rescued from oblivion by an incredible performance by child prodigy Martin Stephens as the eerie Miles.

Horror Queen, New Releases

Drag Me To Hell - Drag Me to Hell Pushes All the Right Buttons and Horror fans may rest assured that Raimi’s mastery of and passion for the genre remain intact.

The Horror Czar, Independents

Eden Log - Eden Log is a Dramatic and Intense Picture of a Violent Future and shows just how far a government will go to maintain the illusion of ‘going green’.

Alien Raiders - Alien Raiders takes cues from 'Alien' and John Carpenters 'The Thing' yet seizes unique ownership of an alien infection scenario complete with trapped grocery patrons and obsessed monster hunters.

How to be a Serial Killer - How to be a Serial Killer Plays on Fantasies that Many Occasionally Have and takes those morbid fantasies to a level that becomes increasingly disturbing with an underlying sense of horror and dread.

Destined to be Ingested - Destined to be Ingested is All Across the Map in terms of themes, tone, pace and even genre. Is this a nature film? Maybe a tragic drama or an unlikely romance? Then there’s the zombies.

Dennis LeFevre, BHM Reader-Submitted Reviews

Frankenstein -     "It's alive, it's alive. IT'S ALIVE!" - Colin Clive as Dr. Henry Frankenstein

As the expression goes, if only I had a nickel for every time I have heard the above line quoted. This line is just one of the many iconic things that came from this wonderful film.

Dracula - Most of today's audience is unaware of the impact this film had upon its release, and though Dracula has been remade many many times, the 1931 version is always the standard bearer.
