New Horror Reviews
The Evil Dead
- The Evil Dead is, in my humble opinion, the classic horror movie of the 80s. Low budget, heavy gore, high imagination and lasting impact - all are true of this timeless film.
Stay Alive
- Stay Alive is formula, ridiculous, low on character development and trivial. I liked it.
Hard Candy
- Hard Candy takes the road less traveled and relys less on visually shocking images and more on psychologically powerful film making, and the result is a rare and engaging horror movie gem.
Severed: Forest of the Dead
- Severed: Forest of the Dead is a good movie with lots of zombie-like activity, and yet there isn't a zombie in the bunch. The Zombie Master Lee explains.
Black Christmas
- Black Christmas is possibly the original slasher horror movie. BHM contributor Ronnie Angel recently watched this 70s horror movie for the first, and perhaps the last time. It is that scary.
Amityville Horror
- The Amityville Horror is a great 70s horror movie with evil spirits and freaky insanity. But we question whether the story is actually true.
Re-Animator
- Re-animator will take you on a trip through the deranged mind of H.P. Lovecraft. Lovecraft novels do not often translate well to the big screen, but this hits the mark. And zombies too!

Horror New Releases for October, 2006
October is, without a doubt, the busiest time for Horror Releases...I love it! Here are the most highly anticipated offerings in the sea of choices:
A Light in the Darkness
- I haven't seen this horror flick from 2002, but the reviews are good.
Frankenhooker
- Horror-comedy about a med student that combines the head of his dead fiance with the body of a red-light district hottie.
Ju-On 2
- The sequel to the fairly-popular Ju-On, Japanese horror that is reported to be pretty creepy. Subtitled.
Mummy's Kiss: 2nd Dynasty
- Presumably the sequel to 2003's The Mummy's Kiss, which was pretty terrible. Couldn't find any mention of this one in the IMDB.
Tiki
- Straight to DVD in 2006, and there doesn't seem to be any information available about this one. Just that a small Tiki idol runs around and kills people (or something like that).
Masters of Horror: Larry Cohen - Pick Me Up
- The latest DVD release from the Masters of Horror series from Showtime. From the director of It's Alive and Q: The Winged Serpent.
Voodoo Moon
- This one originally aired on the SciFi Channel, and the reviews are pretty good.
Feast
- Horror-comedy with very good reviews overall.
Superstition
- DVD Transfer of a movie from 1984, this one is an excellent watch. I'm glad this one is back in the limelight.
From Beyond the Grave
- A great transfer of this 70s horror movie classic. One for the collection.
Ganja and Hess
- Considered to be an important entry in the history of African American cinema.
The Roost
- Lots of gore in this 80s-style horror movie, perfect for a slumber party.
Rest Stop (Unrated Edition)
- I don't know much about this release from 2006, but I do know that a TON of people are pre-ordering it.
Calvaire: The Ordeal
- Belgian horror by first-time director Fabrice Du Welz. Reviews are solid and this flick is reportedly very disturbing.
An American Haunting (Unrated Edition)
- This horror entry from 2006, starring Donald Sutherland and James D'Arcy, has gotten VERY mixed reviews. Let us know what you think.
The Norliss Tapes
- Voo Doo, Zombies and Angie Dickenson...Not sure how you can go wrong with this one.
Nightmares & Dreamscapes - From the Stories of Stephen King
- Eight episodes from Stephen King's short stories. 3 discs.
Abominable
- This is a Bigfoot movie with a ton of action and scares. Very good reviews.
The Complete Omen Collection
- All of the movies from the original The Omen franchise in one place.
Tales from the Crypt - The Complete Fifth Season
- More in the continuing saga of getting these horror gems from HBO in our hot little hands in DVD form.
Slither
- This one was big budget and had big swolen women. It's one to own.
Icons of Horror - Boris Karloff
- Boris Karloff is one of my personal favorites, and there are some absolute GEMS on this 2 disc collection.
The Other
- Twin brothers play the Kane and Able thing, one being sweet while the other is deadly. Great flick from 1972, and good digital transfer.
The Omen (2006 Widescreen Remake)
- The first question to come to mind regarding this remake of The Omen is "Why?"
The Exorcist - The Complete Anthology
- All of the original entries to The Exorcist franchise are here, including "The Version you Haven't Seen". I saw it.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 - Gruesome Edition (Ws)
- The only thing more gruesome than this version is sitting through it.
Hollywood's Legends of Horror Collection
- A great collection of horrors from the 30s, made by MGM and Warner Brothers.
Live Feed
- Very gory and sleazy...with terrible reviews. I might like it.
Twilight Zone: The Complete Collection
- All 156 complete episodes of Rod Serling's series, plus extras like interviews with writers, the unaired pilot, Serling's bio-documentary and more. Excellent!
The Woods (Widescreen Edition)
- Lucky McKee scores a triple (not quite a home run) with this flick. Well reviewed.
