Horror New Releases, September 2007
With so many releases for September it is hard to know which are any good. Best-Horror-Movies.com lists the notables.
Supernatural - The Complete Second Season
- I never actually watched this series, but everything I've read about it is good. Great...another "must watch" on my list...
Grindhouse Presents, Death Proof - Extended and Unrated
- This is the second film from the Grindhouse double feature. I have read that some think this one is the weaker of the two...that may be true, but it was fantastic in my view. This is one to own.
From Beyond (Unrated Director's Cut)
- Stuart Gordon directed and Jeffrey Combs stars...this film was previously very difficult to find, and Gordon had complained that the previously-released version was wrecked by the MPAA ratings, so this DVD release is highly anticipated. The Zombie Master Lee Roberts LOVES this film.
Underworld (Unrated) [Blu-ray]
- I love this flick, and if you are a "blu-ray type" then Underworld is going to look fantastic in HD.
Jekyll
- This is, of course, the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story retold - but with modern twists and some continuation of the story. The previews look great.
Tales From the Crypt / Vault of Horror (Double Feature)
- DVD release of some really great 70s horror flicks - done double-feature style for more bang for the buck.
The Addams Family - Volume 3
- I have always loved this series - and if you do too then you're in luck.
Horrors of Malformed Men
- This is a rare gem from Japan completely remastered...subtitled.
The Burning
- This one has great reviews, but I haven't seen it. If you watch this please give me a full report.
Witchfinder General
- Classic Vincent Price, remastered for our viewing pleasure...
The Return of Dracula/The Vampire
- This is especially nice because of The Return of Dracula - previously out of print and now available again. Good one for the classic shelf.
Scarecrows
- Finally on DVD!! Ronnie Angel reviewed this one a while back for BHM, and complained that the only copies you could find were old VHS tapes from smelly video stores...no more!
The Return of the Living Dead (Collector's Edition)
- This is an absolute classic and the Collectors edition has some great special features and a few extra minutes of run-time. Hmmmm....
Devils Of Darkness / Witchcraft
- Some more great DVDs of previously hard-to-find semi-classics.
The Last Starfighter [HD DVD]
- I guess one day I'll get around to buying a HD DVD player...some great things are starting to come out.
Severance
- I can't wait to see this one...corporate types go on a team-building trip and a slasher starts getting them. In fact, I was supposed to get a screener copy for review...what happened to that?
The Fly Collection (The Fly [1958] / Return Of The Fly [1959] / The Curse Of The Fly [1965])
- What an awesome collection! I love those old Fly movies...
Twisted Terror Collection
- This is a great mixed bag of horror films.
Resident Evil / Resident Evil: Apocalypse
- If you don't already have these then now is the time...number 3 is on the way and I LOVE this series.
Vincent Price: MGM Scream Legends Collection (The Abominable Dr. Phibes / Tales of Terror / Theater of Blood / Madhouse / Witchfinder General / Dr. Phibes Rises Again / Twice Told Tales)
- This is an absolute must for Vincent Price fans...I'm buying this now on pre-order, and it arrives sometimes a little early....
Stephen King Gift Set (The Langoliers / The Stand / Golden Years)
- this is worth is just for The Stand in my opinion...I'm not a big fan of the Langoliers though...
Alligator
- OK, I'll get this one too...I just can't help myself.
New Horror Movie Reviews
We had a busy month here at BHM - lots of new reviews with the classics as well as the brand spanking new box office flicks represented:
The Tripper
- The Tripper is the David Arquette directorial debut, and makes fun of both sides of the political spectrum. Won’t achieve critical acclaim, but definitely a fun movie. Written by The Zombie Master Lee Roberets
The Invasion
- The Invasion contemplates a world where human beings cease to be human and in the process makes us wonder if that might not be a bad thing. Bloody Thumbs Up! Written by BHM New Release Insider Horror Queen
Alien 3
- Alien 3 has not gotten the respect that it deserves. A great story, nonstop action and high drama can be found in this movie – just make sure you get the unrated extended version. Written by BHM Favorite Ronnie Angel
Tamara
- Tamara is a bit cliché, but you can’t help but like it anyway. Jeffrey Reddick, the writer of this teen horror flick, continues to demonstrate his talent as a writer. Written by Lee Roberts
Skin Walkers
- If Skinwalkers were a comedy it might have a chance, but if you’re expecting a good horror film the only skin walking may be yours out of the theater early. Bloody Thumbs Down! Written by Horror Queen.
Freddy vs. Jason
- Freddy vs Jason is a fun film for hardened horror freaks as well as slasher newbies due to the great gore, scary villains and the trap-em horror elements that make slashers a favorite. Written by first-time BHM contributor Jordan
Children of the Corn
- Children of the Corn was scary when I was 11, and is still scary today. The inclusion of a battle against a demonic power helps to make this one of the best horror films of all time. This review is complete with Video Commentary! Written by Kimberly Chills.
From Beyond - From Beyond brings back the team that brought H.P. Lovecraft to the silver screen successfully with Re-Animator. Not many can do Lovecraft justice. Stuart Gordon can. Written by Lee Roberts
Independent Horror Spotlight
By the time an Independent Horror Film gains wide distribution and enters the consciousness of a large number of horror freaks it has typically endured years of post-production, promotion, festivals, shopping and re-edits. Best-Horror-Movies.com reviews the BEST of the Independent Horror scene for those adventurous souls that crave originality, creativity and soul.
Rose of Death - Rose of Death is an Independent horror movie about the hidden sins of youth and final retribution. The moral of the story is: Be careful how you choose your friends. Written by BHM Editor Don Sumner
Killer Killer - Killer Killer is an independent horror creation by Pat Higgins in the U.K. with a great story and great acting except…who knew that serial killers were so bitchy? Written by Don Sumner
The Medium - The Medium is short on length but big on intensity. Never before have I seen so much plot, back-story and character development crammed into 20 minutes. Written by Don Sumner
