Actual Murder Committed in Movie About Students Who Find a Film

Does anyone remember a 70's or 80's film in which students find a film in which an actual murder takes place? One of the students turns out to be the daughter of the murderer.

The film takes place in a movie theater that the students transform to follow movies playing; they pipe in scents and spray water on the audience as if they were actually in the movie.
