First there was Alien, a claustrophobic tale of a predator and its prey, and one woman’s will to survive. Then there was Aliens, a Sci-fi blockbuster in its own way but still a suspenseful terror trip and goldmine of plot addition and character development.
Then there was Alien 3.
The movie shows us the dazzlingly white hypersleep chambers at the very beginning, and all seems fine. Then a facehugger attaches itself to a chamber... but whose?
Alien 3 makes its biggest blunder early on in the film revealing that any surviving characters from Aliens have been killed in a shuttle crash, leaving Ripley as the sole survivor. Bishop is destroyed, Keyes is dead and Newt is dead. Ripley’s ship has landed near a prison.
I'm getting ahead of myself, and without spoiling any more, I'll tell you why you should watch Alien 3.
It returns to the suspenseful, claustrophobic atmosphere of Alien. It also showcases some splendidly creative kills, some maybe rivaling some typical murders of Friday The 13th. The film keeps you on the tip of your seat, has a brilliant plot and some very good effects, plus an enormous ending to rival those of Terminator-Judgement Day, Phone Booth and Children Of The Corn.
To compare it to the original is totally unfair, as it is a film in its own right and a good one at that. It is a horror, action and Sci-Fi in one. Who wouldn't love it?
