Alien Eyes Covered by Sunglasses

I am trying to find the name of a 1950s horror or Sci-Fi with a theme of monsters from space invading earth. They have the ability to turn people to stone and clone themselves by using their lethal eyes, and they have to keep those eyes covered by wearing dark sun glasses. Weird huh?

I am trying to find a source of knowledge about movies of this time and genre, and particularly this film. I remember seeing this one at a theater in Birmingham, AL (born in 1949) and do not know exactly when I saw it but presume it was in the fifties as I am pretty sure it was in black and white and I am must have been pre-teen at the time.

Can anyone help me?
