I'm trying to find the same movie!
But I don't think it's the "the sentinel" and it was way older than the 90's.

I want to say in was a 70's flick because it had that odd vibe that alot of 70's movies had.

Sadly I can't add more than the original post.

I've seen the film a long time ago and also had difficulty finding the title but I believe that you're talking about Scissors, made in 1991 and starring Sharon Stone.

...because you can not remember all that much, but the ending and the way you tried to explain it, makes me think of "The Sentinel".

Do you remember if either Burges Meredith ("Micky" in the ROCKY movies) and/or Chris Sarandon (CHILD'S PLAY/FRIGHT NIGHT) were in it? Was the building a Brownstone in New York?
