Blob Creature With Tentacles Controls Family in House

There's a late 80's or early 90's movie where people are trapped in a house with an alien.

In one scene, four people are in bed together, acting very strangely. This is because a blob with tentacles is controlling them, trying to lure a boy into the room.

In another scene, there's a space alien with a helmet on. The people in the house kill it by cracking the mask but it turns out he had been trying to help them.

Please help! I'm gong crazy trying to figure this out.
