Bloke Finds Underground World and Mythical Creatures Under Graveyard

I'm looking for a horror movie - It's about a bloke who stumbles past huge iron gates into a graveyard and finds a magical underground world of mythical strange-type creatures that are in need of help from him. No one belives him that they exsist and they put him in a psych ward, but he escapes and has to fight a demon to get back underground.

This is an 80s movie possibly, pretty old. I recall the underground place being called nimbin or something...

This one is driving me nuts! Does anyone know this movie?
