B&W: Giant Worms Attack Child in Sewer Plant

I remember a black & white 50's horror film that has giant worms or seaworms in it, and the main character is a Peter Graves-type.
A scientist is dating a woman with a little girl and in the end, the worms try to attack the child while they are in a sewer plant.
Any thoughts?
