'The Thing That Wouldn't Die'

I came to this website to find out the name of this move. I remember watching it as a little kid. The movie started out with people looking for water with a divining rod, and they ended up digging up the chest with the head in it. Whoever saw the head became possessed and they would move around from house to house looking in windows.

We had a neighbor who looked in our window as a joke after he knew we saw that movie. It scared the heck out of us and we wouldn't go near the windows for the longest time.

Thanks for providing the name and the details of the movie...it brought back some funny childhood memories!

The movie was The Thing That Wouldn't Die (1958). The monster was a devil worshiper that had been beheaded by Sir Francis Drake with the head and body buried in separate places. The head was still 'alive' and had hypnotic powers over anyone who looked in its eyes. The head enlisted people to find and recover its body so that it could continue its evil work. Good suspense. Not much action as I recall, but a good scary movie for the time period.
