Can't Get My Horror Fix!
by LeMae
(Redding, CA)
My father got me into horror when I was younger and had me watch the classics. My mother wouldn't let me rent the rated R movies full of blood and terror that I craved, so I started with the black and whites such as The Birds, Night of the Living Dead, Carnival of Souls, and White Zombie.
The sad thing is, now that I am allowed to rent movies on my own, I never have enough time to sit down and watch all the films I wish to see! I have made at least 10 organized lists of horror movies I want to watch, and have hardly made a dent in a year! I do not have Netflix and am considering it due to the lacking of selection at all of my local movie rental places. For example: I've wanted to see Suspiria for I think three years now, and cannot find it anywhere save for the internet to be ordered!
I love Rocky Horror Picture Show and knew of Repo! The Genetic Opera at least a year before its release. Northern California doesn't exactly host many horror-related events, so I had to wait for Repo! to come out on DVD before seeing it. I have gotten many more kids in my town into it, and hopefully into the horror genre!
The horror movie community is so amazing, but my family can't seem to understand that the macabre can be fun! I hope this year to travel to a few horror cons for the first time. Wish me luck!
