The Masters of Horror series
on Showtime brings the top horror writers and directors together for a
series of incredible one-hour features. The fifth episode, Chocolate
directed by
Mick Garris is good within the context of the Masters of
Horror series, but not strong enough to stand alone.

Original
air date: November 25, 2005 Directed by: Mick Garris Written by: Mick Garris Short Story by: Mick Garris
Starring:
Henry Thomas as Jamie Lucie Laurier as Catherine
Synopsis: Jamie (Henry
“E.T.” Thomas) has problems. He is divorced,
lonely, depressed and, worst of all, works in a lab creating artificial
flavorings. How awful. One day, he has a vision that he is in somebody
else’s body. Well, he is. It seems that in Chocolate
Jamie is physically
linked to a woman named Catherine (Lucie Laurier) and it is having a
great affect on him. He begins to fall in love in love with Catherine
and, after a horrific experience, goes in search of her only to find
out that all is not as it seems.
Thoughts: By itself, Chocolate
tends to be a little
weak but when placed within the Masters of Horror
series it becomes
more main stream. I personally like Mick Garris, he did a great job on
The Shining and The
Stand, both well done made-for-TV films.
Don’t get me wrong; I enjoyed Chocolate,
it’s just
not one to write home to mother about. Questions
or comments about Chocolate?
