Whoo-Hoo! Masters of Horror Stephen King and George Romero couldn’t let a good thing go by the wayside and returned five years after the original to make Creepshow 2. Like the original, this is yet another interesting foray into the world of classic comic book style horror that I am sure is currently top dog in your local Video/DVD store's bargain bin.

Go check, it probably is in there somewhere.

Creepshow 2 is like the original Creepshow in that it follows the classic horror comic books and brings them to the screen. There are even snippets of an actual horror cartoon in between the short stories as well. Even though the cartoon segments are not well done, the short stories manage to spark some interest.

Ol' Chief Woodenhead:

The first story is, hands down, the best of the lot. Set in a rural, almost deserted western town, George Kennedy stars as a kindly old shopkeeper who keeps an old wooden Indian statue outside. One night three local youths rob the shop, and kill Kennedy and his wife in the process. This sets the old wooden Indian on the warpath as he magically comes to life and exacts his revenge on the punks.

Creepshow 2 (1987) Indian Revenge

Very well done story of vengeance. The acting is not bad, the setting is very well done and realistic for the story and there is an actual frightening feeling to this one, not the usual cheesy horror Creepshow is known for.

The Raft:

If you were watching the movie and wondering where your cheese was, look no further. The Raft is chock full of it. What can be said about it? Bunch of teens take a trip to a secluded lake. They go swimming out to a raft in the middle of the lake. They end up getting eaten by giant oil slick type monster in the lake that actually looks like a giant garbage bag. Not much thought put into that one.

Creepshow 2 (1987) Dockside Ooze

I will admit there is a nice little surprise at the end of the segment though, which I liked. Good for a few laughs.

The Hitchhiker:

This is the wildcard of the Creepshow 2 bunch. Could be good classic horror story refurnished or it could just be cheesy. Really depends on your personal preference… I liked it. This is kind of a karma story, really. It is the story of a woman making her way back home late after spending the evening in another town cheating on her husband. In her race to get home, she runs over a hitchhiker and takes off. In true King fashion the hitchhiker keeps coming back again and again and again, trying to exact his revenge on the woman.

Really, Creepshow 2 is not a bad little horror collection to have. The stories are interesting enough and there is plenty of comedy, cheese and real horror to go around for the whole family… And hey, five dollars for that isn't all that bad now is it?
