Dear Zombie Master: Voodoo Zombies?
by Katrina Titus
Dear Zombie Master.
I am very pleased that someone else actually believes in the walking dead like I do. So my question is: What the heck is a Voodoo Zombie? I heard my brother talk about it, and I have looked all around on the Internet and could not find anything, and so I turn to you.
Please help me and my girl self to find the answer.
Thanks,
Katrina
P.S. I luv zombies…oh yeah, and do you like video games?
Katrina,
It is good to meet a fellow zombie fan who also happens to be a member of the farer sex. You are not alone, but there are not that many of you out there (or they just don't want to admit it). You will find like-minded members of the female persuasion at the Best Horror Movies community of horror freaks otherwise known as the Ossuary. Now to your question.
The term zombi/zombie originated from the voodoo culture having its foundation in West African beliefs and practices, becoming its own religion with the African slaves in Haiti and then moving with the Haitian Creole to the Southern Louisiana area.
The bad news is that this type of zombie cannot be taken out in the normal "bullet to the head" way because they are completely under the control of the "bokor" or sorcerer and has no power of its own. The good news however is that they are not that threatening or overtly dangerous (i.e. they are not looking to eat you and a bite will not turn you into one), and all you have to do is feed a voodoo zombie salt and it will return to the grave. Seriously. Quit laughing. Look it up.
Good hunting and aim high,
The Zombie Master
P.S. I do like video games but I am not what you would call a "gamer".
