Death Valley is dated and sedate by today’s horror standards.

The 1980s horror movie Death Valley is a great find for those who like their horror off the beaten path.  Plus you get to see Ralphie get stalked by a serial killer!

Sometimes the rarest, hardest to find horror videos... the kind you pick up in a dusty mom and pop video store and say “what the hell” to, turn out to be the proverbial diamonds in the rough among horror movies.  And Death Valley is most certainly hard to find! It is also one of the most exciting horror movies I can remember watching in my teen years. I wish I had a copy of it today. Though I haven't seen Death Valley in years, I will surely do my best to review it for those who might happen to cross paths with this rare gem.

The storyline revolves around a family consisting of a divorced mother, her boyfriend and her young son Billy (everyone’s favorite kid who shot his eye out, Peter Billingsley of the classic A Christmas Story).  The family is on vacation and making their way across, where else, Death Valley. They stumble across an abandoned RV which turns out to be the scene of a brutal massacre by a local serial killer.

Death Valley - Billy in a cowboy hatYoung Billy can’t help exploring the scene a bit, and ends up taking what could be a valuable piece of evidence from the scene – a necklace that the killer left behind.  Later, in a chance meeting at a local restaurant, Billy sees a man wearing the same necklace and realizes there is a connection between him and the murder scene.  Well, the man with the matching necklace is the killer himself, and he has noticed Billy’s suspicious behavior also.

Knowing that he has been found out by this little boy, the killer decides that Billy is his next target and begins a desperate quest to take Billy out – along with anyone else that stands in his way!

While dated of course, Death Valley remains an excellent and exciting horror movie to this day.

Death Valley - in the dinerThe end of Death Valley packs a real shocker as to the true identity of the killer, and there are some genuine thrills that completely catch you off guard throughout. The acting is also quite good, considering the type of movie this is and the era in which it was released.  I would definitely recommend Death Valley to anybody who is fortunate enough to come across it.

If you are a fan of exciting horror and good mystery then you will love this movie. And anyway, who wouldn't love to see Ralphie from a Christmas Story chased by a serial killer?  Questions or comments about Death Valley? Contact us!
