Lisa (Sian Breckin) and Kim (Jaime Winstone) are on holiday in Spain to help their friend Tammi (Nicola Burley) forget her ex fiancé and move on with her life. Girls Weekend is the theme of the party and these lovely co-eds are going to paint the town.
In one particular nightclub the young ladies meet a group of charming men who also happen to be the crew working on a luxury yacht – and the owner has exited the country for a month leaving the boys in charge. After some convincing, the girls join them for a sail and swim on the dream boat. The alcohol starts flowing freely, drugs are enthusiastically consumed, and eventually most of the group is naked and filming erotic acrobatics in the Master Cabin. The demure Tammi, however, keeps her clothes on and her morals intact.
Have you heard of the phrase “Donkey Punch”? According to Wikipedia “Donkey punch is a slang term for an apocryphal and potentially lethal sexual practice supposedly performed during anal sex.” (Full Wikipedia definition of Donkey Punch here). Why do I ask? Well, the shipmates spend a few minutes talking about this practice on the deck of the ship, and one young and naive goofball decides that he’s going to try it. Let’s just say this doesn’t work out very well.
What follows is a series of one bad decision after another as the kids battle with each other over what should be done next. As the tension mounts and desperation sets in the scene goes from tragic, to ugly to downright horrifying in a matter of hours.
Donkey Punch is a type of horror movie that I particularly enjoy; Dark Side of Humanity Runs Amok. There are general standards of morality and decorum that guide most people throughout their lives, but what happens when the predictable normality of life is up heaved because of a disaster, tragedy or monsters in the mist? Add isolation from the rest of society to the equation and new behaviors can start to emerge – the Dark Side of the Human Psyche takes over. Suddenly real horror is found not in the original 
horror-inducing event but in the actions of human survivors as inner evil and panicked self-preservation overwhelms the concepts of right and wrong. The result is a cause and effect that feeds on itself – tragic event causes evil behavior, which results in another tragic event, which amplifies the evil behavior, which leads to more tragic events. Oh, if only people would just call the Coast Guard at the first signs of trouble on the High Seas…
Donkey Punch is a shocker that runs as a series of escalations – each chapter moving to activities increasingly risky, explicit, reckless, uncomfortable, violent and then utterly sadistic. The action is graphic in every way, but there is not a “jolt scare” to be found. Somehow, a young sailor concerned about his future employment prospects can result in more carnage than Jason Voorhees could ever dream up. Questions or comments about Donkey Punch?
