The Second Season of the Masters of
Horror series on Showtime combines top horror writers and
directors together for a second year creating some incredible (and some
not so incredible) one-hour features. Family gives
insight to the inner darkness of the perfect neighbor.

Original
air date: November 3, 2006 Directed by: John Landis Written by: Brent Hanley
Starring:
George Wendt as Harold Matt Keeslar as David Meredith Monroe as Celia
Synopsis: Harold (George Wendt) is your
normal, average,
everyday neighborhood bachelor. He works from his home, he listens to
old gospel music, and he is the quiet neighbor that no one would expect
any problems from. David (Matt Keeslar) and Celia (Meredith Monroe) are
the cute young couple that has moved next door. After being introduced
because of a mishap, they decide to become friendly neighbors and
invite Harold to dinner. David and Celia soon find out that Harold is
not as normal and average as his first impression led them to believe.
Thoughts: I thoroughly enjoyed Family.
It was a much needed follow up to the season’s rocky start.
Landis is one of the best at Black Comedy and Family
is a perfect example. George Wendt absolutely nails his role as Harold
by adding a normalcy to a Norman Bates syndrome. Matt Keeslar and
Meredith Monroe have a good on screen chemistry that brings David and
Celia to life. Ever notice that the neighbors of a serial killer always
describe him/her as “always quiet” or
“never bothered
anyone”? After watching Family you will
understand why I prefer to be the “loud and
obnoxious” neighbor.
