Farm Where Chickens Go Crazy and Mom Sews Sock to Hand

What's the movie from the late 80's or early 90's about a family on a farm that grows their own food, and the son doesn't want to eat it because he thinks it tastes funny?

It turns out the son is the only one who doesn't go crazy. Even the chickens go crazy. In one scene, a girl goes into the barn and chickens attack and peck her. In another scene, we see a head shot of the mom happily sewing, then the camera pans down and we see that she's sewing the sock she's darning to her own hand.
