Five Movies I Loved (but my friends didn't 'get')
by SkimbyJ
5) The People Under The Stairs
I thought this film really demonstrated Wes Craven's genius. My friends thought it was so stupid it was funny.
4) Halloween (the original)
Loved it. My friend fell asleep.
3) Return of the Living Dead
This is one of my all time favorite movies. It's funny, yet it's still a horror film. One of the rare successful horror-comedies. My friends thought the special effects were stupid, the plot didn't make sense, and it was neither scary nor funny.
2) Hostel
I thought the gore was great and the concept very interesting (as are Eli Roth's views on human nature). Showing this one to my friends, however, was a mistake. It has earned me a reputation as being 'messed up in the head'.
1) The Blair Witch Project
No movie ever freaked me out as much as The Blair Witch Project. The steady progression of terror as the nights go on, the discovery of the stick people, the dissappearence of Josh, and the eventual mind-numbing terror felt by the characters, as well as brilliant acting and an original story idea, make this my favorite horror of all time. Why then, did my friends find the concept stupid, the shaky camcorder filming annoying, and the overall film not at all scary?
I guess it just goes to show that some people can't appreciate truly great horror when the see it. Those poor, deprived souls.
