Unmasked Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th Part 3

Reader Submitted Review

I remember before I watched Friday The 13th part 3 the only feedback I salvaged of it was my friends constant claims that it was crap, that it was an insult to the series and that it simply brought a kitsch camp stereotypical Halloween Eve cookie cutter to the series. I purchased the DVD, and found my friend to either be a liar or completely confused. It had creative kills, suspense in barrel loads and another terrifying chair jumper ending.

The film starts where Jason left off in Friday the 13th Part 2 as he removes the machete from his arm and escapes the cabin. Hours later, Jason gives a dysfunctional couple the spooks before giving them a taste of cold, blood soaked AXE!!!

The kills come thick, fast and gory as Jason clears himself a macabre gangway of decapitations, impalings, skull crushings and eye shootings, and Jason finds his trademark, the hockey mask.

After being bludgeoned, a new little biker friend wakes up and decides to foolishly attempt take Jason down - he is dispatched gorily. A lynching attempt on Jason follows which still can't put an end to him. A tense battle ensues that ends with Jason's face meeting an axe and one psyched up almost-victim. The cops drag her way and leave us to ponder and chat over the awesomeness of it all.

I can, however, see at least some part of the contempt some people may hold for Friday the 13th part 3. It could be a disappointment for those who expected more in the vein of 1 and 2, but I personally think number 3 flung a refreshing new face on the series.

Friday the 13th part 3 isn't just one of those sequels necessary to complete the set films. Friday the 13th part 3 is the beginning of Jason's birth into invincibility and superstardom. I stress to you that you should watch it, contrary to my friends views.

Friday The 13th part 3 is a gore filled monument to slashers, a festival of kills and a stab or hack above the rest, contrary to many opinions.

I mean come on, at least its not Jason Takes Manhattan.

Part 3 is indeed better than most
by: Chris Rogers

F13 Part 3 is actually better than almost all non-franchise slasher films from the 80's. One big reason is character development mixed with realistic situations. Think... slasher cliches are done often and badly, but not here. Remember that this is one of the movies that started those cliches. If you saw a horror movie where a character heard a noice and immediately jumped to the conclusion that a friend was trying to prank them, you might not believe it. But in this film it's set up at the beginning that one character is constantly doing just that, so it works. Again another cliche is running out of gas at the wrong moment. But here, we know WHY she ran out of gas... someone syphoned the tank.

It may not be the best ever, but it was still very well done.
