I don't understand how you missed this one- "A dog eat dog world" is underneath zombie movies. They show how we all eat each other (not literally) to get what we want. As for commentary on war I think they are showing zombies as brainless no-will-of-their-own types on purpose. Let's say that the zombies represent the attacking end of the war and the people reoresent those on the recieving end. Only the people know what's really going on while the zombies go about their brainless destruction (brainless represents the effects of propraganda). The zombies are manipulated by an unseen force (just like soldiers don't know their real commanders in real life) and they all don't know what's going on. There are many other relationships, but I don't like looking too deep into movies.
