Great Recent Horror Movies

Murder Party - it's like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Napoleon Dynamite combined. Not so much disturbing as it is gory and funny. Great little indie film.
Hatchet - a great slasher that's almost a tribute to the old school slashers like Friday the 13th. If you like 80's slashers you will love this, very funny and a lot of gore.
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon - it's like a horror/mockumentary, really funny half the time, scary the other half. It's a modern classic for sure.
The Descent - hands down the best horror movie of the past 20 years, easily one of the best ever. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you can't call yourself a fan of horror.
Eden Lake - realistic = scary. This kind of thing could happen, and I think that's why I loved this one so much. You will never forget the ending, no matter how hard you try!
Baghead (2008) - made for only a thousand dollars, this turned out to be my favorite Horror movie in years. Arguably the most likeable cast in horror history. Great acting, funny as hell, with a couple of really scary moments.
The Hills Have Eyes (remake) - a disturbing flick. A must see.
The Mist - the monsters are scary, but the Christians are even scarier! Stephen King's best flick, in my opinion. The ending is messed up, on another level. You have to see this one.
Let the Right One In (2008) - best vampire movie ever (no I'm not kidding). Creepy flick, great acting. Every shot is a work of art. I can't say enough about how good this movie is.
Ginger Snaps - finally a good werewolf movie!
Dog Soldiers - made after being inspired by Ginger Snaps, this is another good recent werewolf movie. Cool special effects.
Honorable mention - Cloverfield, Quarantine, The Strangers, Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007), High Tension, The Orphanage, 30 Days of Night, The Ring, Grindhouse, Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2, House of Wax (2005)
