Toxic Avenger?

It sounds like Rawhead Rex which came out in the mid 80's. It was based on a short story of the same name by Clive Barker (who I believe co-wrote the screenplay). The film came out so bad Barker decided to direct the next movie project he was involved with, Hellraiser (based on his novella, 'The Hellbound Heart').

I have no idea if it's available on DVD because it is a pretty dismal flick and I think it is out-of-print. I happen to own a copy on VHS which I bought when I was particularly obsessed with buying up every horror film I came in contact with (there were a lot of mom-and-pop video stores going belly-up [Thanks Blockbuster] and they were selling their stock off as cheap as $1 a movie, sometimes less).

You should hunt down the film and watch it to satisfy your curiosity...just don't expect much. I suggest reading the short-story by Barker, also. You can find it in one of the 'Books of Blood'. I can't remember which volume.
