'Whoever Slew Auntie Roo' (1971)

This could possibly be the movie you are looking for. It's a take off of 'Hansel and Gretel'.

The woman has to take care of two children and they find a hidden room upstairs, accessed through the closet. I believe they first find the room using a dumbwaiter. It is a child's room and there might have been a guillotine in it. I do remember lots of toys, and she wants the girl, not the boy.

I believe the closet has lots of mirrors and there is a teddybear and I think there is a diamond in it. Shelley Winters has red hair in this movie and does look alot like Mrs. Garrett.
