Hand Severed by Coffin Lid Goes on Killing Spree

When I was six or seven I watched this 40's black & white horror movie about a severed hand that goes on a killing spree.

I think the hand had been severed by a coffin lid falling.

In the end, the housemaid and someone else are at the front door when the housemaid turns round, sees something, screams and faints. The other person realizes what she's seen was a white glove on the stairs.

Any ideas?
