Haunted House Sheds Roof Tiles

by John
(Ireland)

Hi,

Saw this movie sometime in the 70's. I think it was black and white (not sure). It was about a family moving into an old mansion.

One scene I remember is about the grandmother dying in a room upstairs and a hearse pulling into the drive way. The tall driver drags a coffin up the stairs to take her away. The house was alive I think. I remember it shedding its roof tiles.

Fantastic if someone could tell me the name of the movie.

Thank you.

I just purchased and viewed Burn Offerings. The old lady that dies is Bette Davis she is ill, and while Oliver Reed is comforting her, the creepy chauffeur busts into the room. The next scene shows the family at the aunt's burial and yes, at the end of the movie the shingles begin falling off the roof right before the climax.

I offered Phantasm as the picture and after recently seeing a picture of the hearse driver in Burnt Offerings I'm inclined to believe I was wrong!

I have watched Burnt Offerings more than a dozen times and evidently the hearse driver was unimpressive to me because I had no recollection of him. Yet there he was.

Good call people below me.

Or Maybe

Phantasm (1979).

I know in that movie the main creepy guy is a tall hearse driver, but I don't recall shingles falling off the roof.

The house in Burnt Offerings is alive but no one is taken away dead. The family is there to care for the elderly woman upstairs. The chimney falls off the roof and the house renews itself once the husband and son are dead.

I think the movie was Burnt Offerings (1976) with Bette Davis, Karen Black, and Oliver Reed.

Classic 70's haunted house movie
by: Anonymous

I think it's the same movie John of Ireland remembers about a family moving in and some old women dies. I remember in the end of the movie, the house aged, I think it had it had pillars, became overridden by weeds & growth. The House kills people. Someone fell through a window onto a hood of a car. Hundreds of pictures on a long table of all the families the house has taken.

It would be great to get the name of the movie.

Thanks,

Karen

Burnt Offerings

Great Film. Mrs. Allerdyce was no joke! And wouldn't it be nice if our houses shedded their old exteriors with new ones! Well, aside from the evil that came along with it!!!
