Haunted House Where Echo Talks Back

It's tricky and would be a treat if you can tell me what film this is...

I once saw a snippet of a film - it's a black and white film. There are perhaps three people, possibly kids, going into a haunted house. Two are saying nothing is wrong and are shouting hello for example and their words are echoed back. When the scared one shouts, the echo answers as apposed to repeating. He also catches the echo out by pretending to clap, but the noise echoes back.

Any one know what film this could be? Its haunted me for years.
