Right here goes, I absolutely love horror films. That much so, that I've been searching for around 8-9 years for the scariest and have not really come across a film that scares me.

Well that said, there has been times where I've jumped or even veered round the other side of an open door to check if there was someone there.

Now I think a great horror film is a realistic horror film - something that actually could happen at anytime to anybody.

There are the greats like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes, Psycho and my personal favourite the original Halloween. But this millenium's only good horrors have been ones with a great story or that are more believable than any other about.

Finally I came across a French film called Haute Tension that had English subtitles. Being a great horror fan I thought to myself if I can put up with the likes of Battle Royale (Japanese - English subtitles) I can put up with a french film.

Remarkable - What a terrific and enjoyable horror film to watch, it was extremely realistic and had a great twist.

You have got to watch it. I have an english dubbed version called 'High Tension' but it's just not the same so I suggest you all take note of this and get hold of a DVD copy of 'Haute Tension (2003)' and make sure you watch it at night on a big TV with surround sound because the soundtrack is great too. Thats another thing that makes a good horror - soundtrack!

Peace out horror fans.

P.S. Just read an article on 'Darkness' here on BHM and I am now going to give it a trial! :-)

I agree that overall this is a great film. I've been watching horror movies for years and I haven't really been scared since I was a kid. Haute Tension really did the trick of making me incredibly tense through the majority of the story. The effects were great, realistic, and beyond disgusting. But...
I loved everything UNTIL the twist at the end. I really felt like it left too many plot holes and just didn't make sense. To me, a twist is clever for two reasons: because you never see it coming (I didn't) and upon subsequent viewings, details you didn't notice before take on second meanings and other elements fall into place for one of those "Ahhh" moments. This one made me think, "crazy...wait a minute, what?"
I read an article later where the creators said they had a different ending originally but the producer, the great Luc Besson, had them change it. It redeemed them a little in my mind, until I saw their mediocre remake of The Hills Have Eyes. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
