Mary tries to be a responsible girl. She even objects loudly to the calls for “one more shot” by her friends at the local pub as she winds down from a night out with the girls… objects, but ultimately gives in to a final libation, “for the road”. After bidding farewell to her boyfriend (who, for some reason, is lurking outside while the girls party inside) Mary hops into her Jeep and heads to the house.

The drive is long and Mary is paying little attention when suddenly an object catches her eye in the middle of the road. What was that, a tire? A cat? No matter – Mary swerves off the road and narrowly escapes a direct collision with the woods nearby, ending up back on the road and soon safely in the garage of her parent’s home. A little Binaca Blast and herparents will be none the wiser about her drinking and
driving adventure. But wait, there is a message on the answering machine from Mom… the parents are away for the weekend on an unexpected trip. Score!
A shattering moan breaks the trance of Mary’s “free weekend happy dance” and leads her to the garage in search of the source. A tentative investigation reveals the truth about that tire/cat in the middle of the road – it was a man, and that man is now impaled on the front bumper of the jeep and writhing in pain. What to do, what to do? Well, help him, of course, but when Mary makes the attempt he grabs at her in panic and is met by a firm pummeling with Dad’s nearby golf clubs. What’s next? Call the police? The cops may not appreciate Mary’s blood-alcohol level, so she does the next best thing… take the body to an isolated patch of woods and
bury it.
What follows is a psychotic trip from bad to worse as Mary’s imagination gets the best of her… or is it her imagination?
Hit and Run is a series of one bad decision after another. It is often the case in horror movies that the source of all the trouble can be traced to one fatal error in judgement, i.e. investigating a strange noise outside while wearing only panties or not delivering the final deadly blow to a slasher laying on your bedroom floor, but in Hit and Run this concept of bad decisions is taken to extremes. Call the police? Nah, just go back to the burial site and remove the evidence yourself. Fix the dent on the Jeep’s bumper? Nah, just run into a tree so that there is a huge dent to hide the small one. There are more bad decisions that make matters worse… and then more.

Hit and Run is a fun and suspenseful horror film that has scares and many tense moments. The challenge is paying attention to what’s happening in between fits of yelling at characters on the screen not to do yet another stupid thing. Good luck with that one.
