Hitchhiker Mistaken For Old Man's Ex-Wife in Inbred Community

What is the name of this late 80's to mid 90's French horror movie about a hitchhiker?

A male hitchhiker stops in a small town where the community is inbred. A crazy old man thinks the hitchhiker is his ex-wife who ran away, so he traps and tortures him.

The hitchhiker eventually escapes but the rest of the town gangs up on him, also believing he's the old man's ex wife.

The film ends with most of the town hunting down this poor bloke with guns, and him running through the forest in the snow.
