Horror Movie Grab Bag! (Volume 1)

by Closet Creature
(Oregon, USA)

Need something to tide you over until Halloween? Consider this full day lineup of films and the prime times for viewing each!

MORNING (6:00-11:59 AM) Take your pick(s)!

1. IT

2. The Mist

3. Creepshow

4. Jeepers Creepers

5. The Ring/Ringu

6. Poltergeist

If you're anything like me, you'll probably want to start off with something simple and straightforward. We aren't diving for the jugular before breakfast.
Stephen King's It is a fun ride with genuinely creepy moments. If you're pretty phobic of clowns then it's best to pull Pennywise out well before dusk.

Another King flick, The Mist offers up some classic monster movie cheese wrapped in a grim atmosphere.

If you really want to spirit yourself back to the days
of pure comic horror, look no further than Creepshow.

If you're wanting a little more seriousness without loosing the fun, try Jeepers Creepers instead.

Depending on how you feel about remakes, you could add a couple of Rings to your cereal and orange juice.

But maybe you're more refined than those others,
and a classic is the best thing to start your day off? Pop in Poltergeist and let the ghostly mayhem ensue.

AFTERNOON (12:00-4:59 PM)

7. 28 Days Later

8. A Tale of Two Sisters

9. The Silence of the Lambs

10. Se7en

11. Saw

12. Misery

So we've eaten breakfast, maybe we're about ready to settle down for lunch. Either way, we're up and about, ready for something a little more thoughtful, or
maybe just more action oriented.

28 Days Later will satisfy that need for faster, grittier horror, whilst providing some food for thought on violence.

A Tale of Two Sisters will force you to think, while delivering a quiet, unsettling ghost story.

Sometimes though, it's most satisfying to get
inside one of the most frightening places of all: the mind of a killer.

Do you prefer the tasteful, sophisticated man? Hannibal Lector can be all that in The Silence of the Lambs.

Perhaps you're looking for someone with values, a morality? John Doe punishes those "deadliest" sinners in Se7en while Jigsaw tortures the jaded few who just don't seem to appreciate life's gifts in Saw.

If you really want to jump off the boat and stick your face in the water, there's always the insane Annie Wilkes and her secluded cabin in Misery.

DUSK (5:00-8:59 PM)

13. Darkness Falls

14. Candyman

15. The Descent

16. Hellraiser

17. Event Horizon

18. Alien

The sun has begun to set. We're ready to start pulling out the bigger guns.

For a genuinely frightening return to childhood fears of sleep, Darkness Falls provides a cliche, but solid chill to the spine.

Or maybe you can tempt yourself to recite the words "Bloody Mary" or "Candyman" in your bathroom with the
door shut and the lights out after viewing Clive Barker's Candyman.

You can go the path of the sun, and descend into the dark tunnels the provide the setting of the most terrifying caving trip ever in The Descent.

Whatever you do don't go to bed immediately after viewing the demonic nightmares lurking behind
reality in Clive Barker's Hellraiser or aboard the futuristic spaceship, Event Horizon.

Should you be seeking a monster who's a little more corporeal, head into the deepest reaches of space aboard the Nostromo in Ridley Scott's classic, Alien.

NIGHT (9:00 PM - 5:59 AM)

Remember, you have to sleep sometime!

19. Session 9

20. The Thing

21. In the Mouth of Madness

22. The Exorcist

23. Halloween

24. The Blair Witch Project

Now we can turn the dial all the way up! Depending on how you like your scares served, these final six should suit whatever you're in the mood for!

If it's a disturbing walk down the road of psychological terror, Session 9 will leave you shaken.

For a monster movie that plays with your mind and shocks the senses, John Carpenter's The Thing will leave you feeling vulnerable from the monsters we can't always see.

For a Lovecraftian trip into the darkness just outside
our friendly dimension, feel free to jump In the Mouth of Madness.

Scared of possession? Demons? If you're feeling brave, unleash the biggest demon movie of all, The Exorcist. Just remember to turn all of the lights off first!

Maybe the monsters inside aren't what frighten you, though, maybe your worst fear is that shape peering in through the window. Let another horror classic, Halloween, exploit your fears of the real boogeymen lurking out there in the dark.

Or maybe it's what you can't see that scares you the most, the mystery and that feverish question "What's happening? What's out there?" The Blair Witch Project will toy with your dreams, scare your waking mind, letting you guess at what hides in the moonlit forests of the world.

Hope you find this list fun and entertaining! Happy hauntings!
