A fictional, bucolic setting somewhere that vaguely resembles Portugal is the setting for Incubus. In this place the battle between good and evil is less subtle than here on our planet. In this place the spirits of the dark one actively roam the earth in search of souls that they can take down into the pit of hell with them. Their primary tool to entrap souls is a well where spring water flows freely; It’s actually a magic well. To those who are pure in heart, the water tastes sweet, but to those whose souls are polluted, the water tastes salty and rancid.
Many a lustful man, greedy child or wanton woman has come to the well seeking eternal life, only to taste the putrid water and unknowingly be led to their death by the temptations of a succubus their own soul created. But… not so with Captain Kirk… I mean William Shatner playing Marc. Shatner hadn’t become Captain Kirk yet when this film was made.

Marc is a noble and upright man who seeks the will and guidance of the Lord. Granted, he did have an unusual and oddly close relationship to his sister, but hey, what happens in bucolic, make believe Portugal land stays in bucolic make believe Portugal land.
Marc tastes the water seeking divine connection and finds it sweet. This draws the attention of a number one seductress, Kia (Allysn Ames), who coincidentally has grown tired of seducing the evil ones who taste bitter water. She’s ready for a new challenge and who can blame her. She wants to seduce someone who is good and makes it her mission to bring Captain Kirk - I mean the Marc character down.

Through Kia has certainly caught his eye, Marc proves to be a more worthy opponent than she initially thought. He is actually a real Christian with values and principles that are stronger and deeper than his lusts. Kia finds herself dealing with a force stronger than lust - the power of Love; Not only a man’s sincere love for a woman, but a man’s sincere love for God. She is no match for it.
Amael (Eloise Hardt), Kia’s sister, sees that Marc is getting the better of her love-struck sibling and calls in reinforcements… The Incubus, or male version of the succubus. Incubus disguising himself as a human man and begins wreaking havoc on Marc by going after his sister. Sister dearest is no match for his seduction and strength.

Can Marc save himself and his family? What of Kia, succubus turned convert? You will have to watch Incubus to find the answers. If this film is just a little too black and white, a little too 1960s and a little too slow for you however, watch the Incubus remake from 2006 by director Anya Camilleri; The answers to these pressing questions are a bit more plainly laid out in the modern version.
