And Another Thing!
by: big bad bitch

Freddy only can come back if people think of him thats how he gets his power, you would know this if you watch and paid attention to any of the Elm Street movies. Yes Michael and Jason were both real men but so was Freddy at one point in time, and the reason Michael comes back is because he is deturmed to get the last living family member he has left and then he can rest. The reason that Jason comes back is to get revenge form the ones who killed his mother and to get all the teens who don't follow the rules.

Why vilains don't die
by: Richard

Hello Denny,

By the way Freddy was a real man, a child molester who was killed by the parents of his victims, he comes back to have his revenge on his agressors by killing their children.

Now as to immortality, it's simple ... evil never dies, because if it did what then. I don't know how old you are but same thing with vilains in comic books ... you think they might be dead ... but a few numbers later here there are again.

Same could be said for superheroes, the movie unbreakable with Bruce Willis deals with that.

The Fall of Because.
by: Watchman de profundis

Well, Jason technically isn't "undead" until Part 6. He didn't actually drown in part one, he was alive, scavenging in the forest and searching for his Mommy, I assume. He witnessed his Mother's death at the end of part 1 sparking an unending murder spree. So, in parts 2, 3 and 4 he is actually living and breathing, although seemingly preternaturally powerful. He dies at the end of part 4 "the final chapter" at the hands of Tommy Jarvis and is resurrected in Part 6 at the hands of Tommy Jarvis
a la Frankenstein's Monster. So, if it's good enough for Mary Shelley than why not the film makers behind the unending stream of Friday the 13th movies. So, being undead, he can't die per se.
Michael is a little more complicated. He is not resurrected by the tried and true means of electricity. He just won't die. Now there are alternate story lines in the Halloween cycle with different interpretations of who and what Michael is and that is why of the four epic "slasher" icon's; Freddy, Jason, Michael and Leatherface, I am the most transfixed with Michael (although Leatherface scares me on a more visceral level.) Because, with Michael, there is no clear reason, no absolute why. In a sense he is a representation of the Jungian Shadow. That negative dark, aspect of our psyche that we must grapple with on our journey towards self-actualization or self-destruction. He is the purging fire, that part of us that wants to, needs to destroy. (Though most deny it's within them. All angels, lights, and choirs, right? )
In the end, I doubt this was helpful. Maybe, my explanations sound ridiculous. Probably, because they are. Think about what your asking and what we're talking about. But, may I ask why do you need an explanation? Why do you need an absolute answer? Maybe there is one, maybe there isn't. But, ambiguity leaves room for so much more. If I was given an absolute explanation as to the whats and whys of these movies than I think it would be kind of boring. It would demystify the characters. Plus, why do you think people keep coming back for more after almost 30 years?
The preceding were just my opinions but that is the beauty of the dark fantastic . . . Intellect, reason, rationality are left at the door. Make up your own reasons, suspend disbelief, or just watch something else. Horror and the Dark Fantastic aren't for everyone.
