The typical horror movie review on Best-Horror-Movies.com
is
preceded by a few of the significant characters and the actors that
portray them. Killer Killer is a bit of an exception
with eight acting
credits because this is quite an ensemble piece.
Killer Killer begins with a stalking knife-wielding slasher
entering
the home of a lone blonde babysitter. All is well in the slasher world
when the babysitter decides to take a shower and show her boobs (nice
ones, too) and we see that the slasher is wearing a Jack Nicholson
mask. What the Nicholson-esque slasher doesn’t bank on is
that our demure blonde and nude babysitter brought big knives into the
shower with her, and she’s not afraid to use them.
Next
we meet the cast of characters through their police interview
tapes. Each is a serial killer, and each is asked questions like
“why did you do it?” and “do you feel
remorse”. None of them have a convincing answer, and they are
sent to a special prison for the criminally beyond hope.
One day the undesirables awake to find that their cell doors are open,
the guards are gone and there is a strange gray mist outside that
obscures all views. The mist is deathly cold, so none are free to leave
the building. It is not safe inside, however, as they begin dying one
by one in grisly ways.
This Independent horror creation is an interesting story about how the past
actions of the
criminally heinous come back to haunt them…and kill them.
The punishments for past crimes are administered, appropriately, by
Helle (Danielle Laws) in imaginative
and well conceived ways.
The thing that I found just a bit annoying about Killer Killer
was the
interaction between the murderers while they were trapped inside the
unguarded prison awaiting their demise. At times the exchanges between
the characters were revealing tangents into their characters and their
psychotic motivations for becoming cold-blooded slashers. Unfortunately
these important moments of depth were intermingled with cry-baby
sessions reminiscent of verbal slap-fights. Who knew that serial
killers were so bitchy?
Overall this is a very good movie that
makes incredible use of
an obviously low budget. The actors are strong, the dialogue is
excellent (when it doesn’t sound like teenagers fighting over
a stolen boyfriend) and the gore fits just perfectly.
You may
have read an earlier review of HellBride,
also created by Pat
Higgins. It is interesting to watch Higgins progress as a film maker,
and considering what he can accomplish with a tiny budget I have no
doubt that given a lump of cash he is capable of giving the world a
lasting horror classic.
Watch Killer Killer and keep an eye out for Pat
Higgins – he
will be making an important mark on horror in years to come. If you
have the inclination to watch (or invest in) independent horror,
Higgins is a good bet. Questions
