Lifelong Scares

Kolchak
I grew up amidst religious hypocrisy, mental illness, abuse and abandonment. Horror fiction helped me escape. I think it started with the 70's TV series Kolchak: The Night Stalker. We weren't allowed to watch TV without the parents' approval, so late at night my sister and I would sneak in to watch that show with the sound down low.
For years, all I would read was horror fiction. I stopped going to theaters years ago, so my wife said we need to have a theater put in our home, which we have. It's awesome to get that cinema experience at home. We share a love of horror and suspense films. Netflix and on-demand are really convenient.
I like a lot of subtypes, but have to say that movies involving ghosts, witchcraft and Satanism are my favorite - they make me feel that God is the highest power but that evil surrounds us, follows us and is inside us.
A few lesser-known films I recommend are:
Witches Night
Below
Dark Floors
Dog Soldiers
The Gravedancers
Fear Itself: Sacrifice
Cigarette Burns
The V Word
The Ninth Gate
Outpost
Mother of Tears
