Not even the special effects are good in Live Feed, which is amazing considering it was created by an FX guy.

I had several of my “friends” tell me about a “great” independent film directed by a “great” special effects artist. They told me that it was as good if not better than Hostel. They told me that it was destined to be a classic of modern horror. After spending my hard earned money and wasting my precious time, neither of which will I ever get back mind you, I have come to the conclusion that these “friends” are on crack.
Live Feed starts by introducing us to five young friends that have traveled to Hong Kong for vacation. I would give you their names but they are up top and it really doesn’t matter anyway. They are out to have a good time and apparently the only place in all of Hong Kong to have a good time is in a seedy part of town where dogs are killed out in the open for snacking on. The dog episode almost ruins the night’s festivities but they decide to go to a club instead and shoot some pool and they start to have a good time again.

That is until one of them (Mike, I think, but who cares) runs into a mob boss spilling his drink and ends up having guns put in his face. This of course upsets everyone and the night seems to be ruined again until they find a porn theater. Fun times to be had for all.

Just when the night started to get better it turns out that this porn theater is also the
home base for the mob boss that was offended in the pool hall earlier. Thrown into the mix
are a randomly placed Yakuza plan for world domination and an idiotic “American”
owner of the theater that just pops up out of nowhere for no reason with 10 minutes left.
Oh, and did I mention that this porn theater is also a torture palace and the five friends
are in for the time of their lives. I do hope my sarcasm isn’t too apparent.
Stan Winston is a great special effects artist that took a stab at directing and hit the
ball out of the park with Pumpkinhead.
Tom Savini is a master of his effects craft and did an excellent job (IMHO) with his tribute
to Romero’s
Night of the Living Dead '90. I mention this simply as evidence that I am not prejudiced
towards FX artists taking the director’s chair for a ride. However, when your references include
Bleeders,
Replicant, and that classic among classics
Vampires Vs. Zombies, might I suggest that you stay away from the control aspect of film making.
Live Feed is one of those films that you continue watching because you know that it
has to have some redeeming quality, something that will jump out and justify the last 81 minutes
only to see the credits role, and leave you astounded that
there was some one out there that actually thought that Live Feed was worthy of the cost
to mass produce it on DVD. I could have randomly picked any five people off of the streets of downtown
Memphis and they would have been better actors than Mr. Nicholson chose for this piece of total crap.
As a matter of fact, I could have probably picked any one to edit Live Feed and they would have done a better job.
The special effects are crap and this from some one whose regular job description is in special effects. There is a lot of fake blood spewing around but any cuts or beheadings are so transparent that it looks like something that I could pull off on Halloween night with stuff purchased from the local Wal-mart.
Consider this a warning, Live Feed is not even a “good” bad movie but rather belongs in the refuse pile along with the likes of Valentine, Tooth Fairy , Trespassers and all the other films that try to be horror but only succeed, as is the case with Live Feed, in looking like something kids would do.
I apologize. I did not mean to put down kids that way and I am truly sorry. Questions or comments about Live Feed? Contact us!
