Man Fakes Own Death in Bathtub With White Contact Lenses

There is 70's or early 80's film I'm looking for where both a husband and wife are school teachers at a private school, and the husband fakes his own murder, then scares his wife to death by raising up from a fully submerged bathtub with white eyes. She has an apparent heart attack and he calmly takes off his white contact lenses, then haunts and manages to scare her to death.

He then carries on an affair with another woman. Later on however, students see the ghost of his wife around the school and the husband then tries desperately to dispel these sightings.

In one scene, he jumps into a murky swimming pool to help a student retrieve a lighter knowing that this is where he had dumped his wife's body earlier - no body was found when the pool was later drained.

It turns out the wife actually faked her own death and used the same trick on her husband - he apparently really dies. In the last scene of the movie, the students and teachers are preparing to leave for summer break and the wife glances at the school one last time and sees ,in horror, that the window or blinds in her husband's room are open, suggesting that her husband is still alive.

I think the male actor is British and has short brown hair.
