Military Assists Town Under Attack by Creatures

I've been looking everywhere for this film but I can't remember the title.

In a small town somewhere in the desert, a lot of strange things happen. People die without a reason under strange circumstances. So the government sends out a research team with military backup. Thinking it is a virus, the researchers wear protective suits. They also bring a vehicule with them that functions as a mobile lab.

They soon discover that it isn't a virus but some weird creature that takes possesion of living things.

In one scene, some people are sitting in the mobile lab when they see a dog outside. By the way is it filmed we can clearly see the dog is possessed so they decide not to let it in.

In another scene, people are locked in a hotel. Some creatures are trying to get in, so some guy takes a shotgun and shoots at the creatures.

I remember ther eis an a-list actor in the movie, so it's not some low budget horror.

Does anyone know what movie this is?
