Classic flick

Kind of sounds like you're looking for TerrorVision (1986). An alien race disposes of family pets by beaming them into space after they (apparently normally) begin to mutate and become dangerous. If you remember a scene where the monster starts acting like a pet after seeing a punk rocker's black leather spiked gauntlet, then this is it.
