Movie Sound Becomes Silent When Satan Talks to Boy

What movie did I see in the 70's or 80's where a boy living with his parents is approached by a man (Satan?) who talks to him and when he does the film is silent?
Later, the boy throws his model airplane against a wall repeatedly, which has some bad, magical effect.
