My Particular Taste in Horror
by Josh Price

Dressed as Ash from Evil Dead in my young days
10. The Thing -
GREAT movie. John Carpenter and Kurt Russell do an amazing job in this one. I was so surprised to see that this movie was made in 1982! Watch it and see the special effects that rival todays greatest
9. Land of the Dead -
I almost didn't give it a chance given the nature of modern day zombie movies but I'm glad I did. The scene where the zombie's fingernails rip back from scratching the truck gives me the chills.
8. Saw -
Only the first one is to my likings. The whole concept is both creepy AND meaningful, a rare event in modern horror. But of course the series was ruined for me when the only scare factor was stupid gore scenes and pop-out shit, not very creative.
7. Jaws -
Another movie that I only enjoyed the first of. This movie forced my mom to keep me from the beach all of my childhood.... and I live in a California beach town. Just goes to show what kind of impact a movie can leave
6. The Evil Dead -
I can go on for hours on this movie. I basically live and breathe Evil Dead, a true classic and staple in the horror movie industry.
5. The Exorcist -
One of the only movies I have trouble sitting through.... honestly that little girl gets me every time.
4. Dawn of the Dead/ Night of the Living Dead - Decided to put them together because I couldn't put one ahead of the other. Dawn of the Dead is a classic with the whole mall theme and Night of the Living Dead kind of started it all!
3. Halloween -
Of course the low-budget classic slasher that started the whole revolution of slasher films (mostly bad) and their stereotypes (also bad). But I think Rob Zombie deserves praise for his version as well because it was surprisingly great.
2. Evil Dead II/ DeadAlive -
Personally I'm a huge Evil Dead series fan but I'm also a fan if the DeadAlive movie. Both great, Both funny, Both scary, Both Genius, Both gory.
1. I had a tough time writing this list because I am leaving out SOOOOOOOOO many great horror films but for number one I'm gonna go with...
The Shining -
Stephen King at his best with an amazing performance by Jack Nicholson..idk if I need say more
I also decided to add in a list of 5 Disappointments
NOTE-THIS IS NOT A "WORST HORROR FILM LIST" IT IS JUST A LIST OF MOVIES THAT DIDN'T QUITE LIVE UP TO WHAT I EXPECTED.
5. Friday the 13th -
It's an alright movie but it just kept me bored throughout when I was expecting an awesome slasher. The magic is in a couple of the sequels.
4. The Ring -
Yeah Yeah little girls can be scary (THE SHINING!!) but that's the only scare factor of the whole film and I'm not much of a fan of the whole Americanization of these Japanese horror gems. The actors really didn't do it for me.
3. The Grudge -
See number 4's EXACT description
2. The Blair Witch Project -
OMG the most amazing reviews! It will scare the shit out of you!!!! UMMMMM not quite...
1. Oh God I know I'm going to be killed for this one
Alien -
It is #2 on a shitload of best horror movies lists and I don't see why at all. I watched it for the first time with very high hopes of a life changing experience but instead I was met with a mediocre movie (exception being the chest-burster. one of the greatest scenes ever but didn't save the whole movie for me. P.S. on my bachelor party I want a stripper to pop out of the cake followed by a chest-burster popping out of the strippers chest) It wasn't bad really but it was way under my expectations.
