My Top 25 Horror Movies EVER!

25. "Return of the Living Dead"
Zombie comedy at last.

24. "The Dead Zone"
Maybe not true horror but this movie is moody and creepy.

23. "28 Days Later"
Zombie movie or not? Who cares? Fun, gory and fast-paced.

[22. "The Fly" (1986)

Excellent effects put CGI to shame.

21. "Creepshow"
Romero/King = campy horror greatness.

20. "Diary Of The Dead"
I didn't think I would like this after Romero's boring "Land of the Dead", but I was surprised. He's still got it.

19. "Sleepy Hollow"
Good modernization of classic. Even better than the Disney cartoon.

18. "Dead Alive"
So much gore, so little time.

17. "28 Weeks Later"
A superior sequel... I'm ready for 28 Months Later.

16. "Bram Stoker's Dracula"
I know Keanu Reeves was in it but it's a great version anyway.

15. "The Shining"
This movie begins and ends with Jack's performance.

14. "the Ring"
There are way too many of these Japanese remakes around but this one was very creepy.

13. "An American Werewolf In London"
Best were-wolf movie---ever!

12. "From Dusk 'Til Dawn"
Your watching this violent crime movie and *boom*... all hell breaks loose.

11. "Scream"
It takes off on slasher genre while becoming the best of it's kind.

10. "Alien"
Great sci-fi horror.

9. "Halloween" (1979)
John Carpenter's masterpiece.

8. "Day Of The Dead"
Goriest of the Romero original trilogy.

7. "The Exorcist"
Love the director's cut.

6. "The Evil Dead"
Low-budget masterpiece.

5. "Dawn Of the Dead" (1979)
Mall zombie's. Romero classic.

4. "Poltergeist"
Though the director was Tobe Hooper, this is all Spielberg.

3. "Dawn Of the Dead" (2004)
This over the original? It goes against my nature, but dang-it, this was a great gorefest with a fast pace and that great Johnny Cash song during the opening credits.

2. "Jaws"
Forget the ocean... I was afraid to look under my bed after seeing this one... I knew that shark was under there.

1. "Evil Dead 2"
Sam Raimi is a friggin' genius!

Good list!
by: tiggnutz

Luv the list but its blasphemy to say the Dawn of the Dead remake was better than the first. I do really dig the remake. 28 Months Later would be freakin' sweet.

an omission
by: Wayne

I do enjoy a good slasher film too. I love the whole Friday the 13th series and they're all just outside of that list. Also like "April Fools Day", the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series up thru part 4, "Texas Chainsaw Murders" on and two (the 2nd one is a guilty pleasure, and many more.

One I left out of this hastily put together list...and it would rank top 5...is "John Carpenter's The Thing".

Thanks for the feedback!

some great zombie movies here, that are probably more appropriate for a BEST ZOMBIE MOVIES EVER list, but for best horror movies ever list i think there are some great slashers missing. but i do like th einclusion of scream, one of my favourite movies, and i am myself a big zombie movie fan, but only 4 stars for lack of variety
