My Top 5 Horror Movies of All Time
by Travis
(USA)
1. The Descent (2005). It is the main reason why I love horror films. Before The Descent, I wasn't much of a horror fan. In fact, my favorite horror film was When a Stranger Calls. I grew up watching cheap overrated slashers like the Friday the 13th and Child’s Play sagas. After watching The Descent, however, I fell in love with horror. I did my research and got into good horror films like Halloween, Carrie, The Shining, etc. The Descent is by far the best horror film I've ever seen.
2. The Descent: Part 2 (2009). A lot of people thought this movie stunk, but I thought it was the best horror sequel since Aliens (1986). After watching The Descent (2005) I kept on whining to the director to please make a sequel because there wasn't a day that passed that I didn’t wonder if she made it out of the cave. After watching this film I was blown away. It did the same thing for caving that Jaws did for swimming.
3. Alien Resurrection (1997) was the first film I ever saw and it haunted me in all my elementary years. Eight years later I did my research and found the Alien trilogy. I watched Alien (1979) and it scared the living heck out of me. I watched Alien 3 (1992) and thought it was a bit boring. Then I watched Aliens and I haven’t been in a film since where I kept my fingernails dug under my mattress. It’s hard to find a horror movie that is good and scary at the same time, but this movie delivers.
4. Wrong Turn (2003). I watched this film when I had a terrible flu, and felt like my stomach was going to explode. I actually missed a week of school and my aunt had to take care of me. My cousin put this movie on after I had literary just puked. Four days later I got better and watched this film again. It was so good I almost puked again, but I loved it. I always love films where the main characters fight back rather than run and hide, when they stick together and use teamwork. This film has it!
5. Dog Soldiers (2002). This film is just brilliant. The same director from The Descent directed this, and I just love this film. I think it’s also the best werewolf film of all time. To me it’s more of a survival movie, what you are or not prepared to do to survive, and who you can and cannot trust. But above all I love the humor used in this film. It made me love the UK forever, and it also proves you don't need CGI to make an awesome film.
