My Top Ten Horror Films (5-10)

6. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre...'Get that bitch Leatherface'. This movie is basically horrible in the sense that nothing nice happens in it whatsoever. Based on true events make is all the more frightening. Out in the middle of nowhere, a cannibal family commits mass murder un-noticed and un-disturbed. The terrifying Leatherface is well and truly confirmed in movie folklore. Without this film you may not have gotten Deliverance, The Hills Have Eyes or Wrong Turn.
7. A Nightmare on Elm Street...'One, two, Freddy's coming for you'. Freddy Kruger may not seem to appear as evil as Michael Myers or Leatherface due to his comedic one-liners, but don't be fooled. What makes him more evil is that he'll kill you in your dreams and will take great pleasure in doing so.
8. Psycho...'12 cabins, 12 vacancies'. This film just never gets old. Normal Bates didn't wear a mask. Instead he wore his dead mother's clothes which is much more disturbing. The twist is unexpected and no matter how many times you see it, it still works. The sequels are underrated, avoid the remake.
9. The Omen...'It's not a child'. First, this film could not have been better cast. Could you imagine Damien as any other child? Some fantastic death scenes including the suicide of Damien's nanny at his birthday party. The sheet of glass scene is an all time classic death scene.
10. Jaws...'We're going to need a bigger boat'. I couldn't decide if this was a horror movie or not. But if you substitute a masked killer hiding in the shadows for a great white shark hiding under the water, then is there much difference? And when the shark kills a small boy, then you know anyone is a possible victim. Throw in the ultimate jump out of your seat moment in cinema history, when a head pops out of a hold in a damaged boat. Then listen to antihero Quint build the tension with his story of the USS Indianapolis. Could this be anything other than a horror movie?
Hope you enjoy my full list!
