My Top10 Underrated Horror films of the 2000's
by Am I Evil?
(Lincoln, Nebraska, USA)
Murder Party
Fido
Dawn of the Dead 2004
Let the Right One In
Yeah, yeah...another Top 10 list right? Hell no people! This list gives credit where credit is due. Most of these barely get a mention on most Top 100 lists. As a horror freak I am pretty easily satisfied (the masters of the 70's and 80's) but in recent years with movies like the Saw franchise and Eli Roth with the Hostel series, I really began to wonder where my beloved horror genre was headed. All CGI gore and no glory? Where are the freaks mixing the blood and stuffing rubber torsos with pig intestines and dynamite? Come on now...have we learned and perfected our bloody art? Yes we have.
10. Feast (2005). Written by Wes Craven, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Chris Moore. Great movie with lots of action and count them - three sequels. Funny, gory and Great!
9. Wrong Turn (2003). Ever wonder what lives in the backwoods of Virginia? Inbred cannibalistic mutants, that's what! I really enjoyed this movie and they went on to make three more which I really didn't care for. Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (2007) however, has a great head explosion scene! A must see.
8. Rest Stop (2006). Living in Nebraska, I know better than to stop at these locations. Why doesn't everyone else? Maniacs, missing people, and an RV loaded with freaks - what could be wrong with this picture?
7. Dawn of the Dead (2004). What a great remake! The original is great too, but you just have to see this one. Lots of laughs, jumps and blood.
6. Pan's Labyrinth. Not for the kiddies! Creepy and dark, this movie can satisfy any person who watched horror flicks as a child.
5. Behind the Mask. A great slasher/ spoof of a serial killer. Get to see the set up it would take to pull off Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies but from behind the mask.
4. Let the Right One In (2008). Wonderful vampire flick that has now been remade American style. I will see the US convert but I promise you, nothing is better than the original.
3. Fido (2007). 50's style in color but with a spin. Great for the funny bone, but enough of a sick twist to satisfy any horror fanatic.
2. Murder Party (2007). I was shocked how good this movie actually wis. Kinda slow at first, but once the blood starts rolling it never stops. This one has some good laughs too. Added bonus: an instructive on how to make your own cardboard suit of armor.
1. 28 Days Later (2002) For some reason, I can't get enough of this movie. The sequel is good too but nothing like the original. As you can tell I am a kind of zombie fanatic and this movie will not ever disappoint me. If you haven't seen it (shame on you), go now! That's all I'm gonna say.
Happy Hunting!
